If Not YOU, then WHO?
The rise in the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes is outrageous and seriously concerning. If this condition hasn’t impacted you personally (and we hope it hasn’t!) chances are high that it has touched someone you know and/or love.
We want to give credit right away for the great image to the right. It comes from an article about Type 2 Diabetes on the daytwo.com website. The link at the bottom of this article shares the exact source. Check it out.
To us, this image is a very simple, yet striking perspective of just how prevalent metabolic disease is in America. The continual rise of occurrence along with the very serious effects of it, are finally getting people to ASK about it.
Informed people are finally trying to prevent it and even reversing it in many cases. The problem is that very few are informed! We want to work on that and it’s the purpose of this and the next blog we will share.
Another article from February 27, 2017, appeared on healthline.com entitled “Type 2 Diabetes Statistics and Facts”. It was written by Adrienne Santos-Longhurst and Medically Reviewed by Peggy Pletcher, MS, RD, LD, CDE. The article shared many of the statistics associated with this condition. Again, the numbers seem ridiculously high.
It’s almost unbelievable that a condition that is typically preventable and/or reversible is allowed to persist and flourish like it is! Here are just a few snippets taken directly from the article. (Note: we added the bold and underlines)
“Risk factors: Many risk factors for type 2 diabetes include lifestyle decisions that can be reduced or even cut out entirely with time and effort. Men are also at slightly higher risk of developing diabetes than women. This may be more associated with lifestyle factors, body weight, and where the weight is located (abdominally versus in the hip area) than with innate gender differences”.
“Prevalence: Type 2 diabetes is increasingly prevalent but also largely preventable. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), type 2 diabetes accounts for about 90 to 95 percent of all diagnosed cases of diabetes in adults”.
“Weight: Keeping a healthy weight is important. The Diabetes Prevention Program found that weight loss and increased physical activity reduced the chance of prediabetes turning into type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. For people 60 years or older, the reduction was 71 percent. For overweight people, losing five to seven percent of body weight through exercise and healthy eating could prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes”.
WHOA! The chances of reducing this condition are SO high! This is information coming from very reliable and “official” sources! Check out the article for yourself. That link is below, too.
We all know there are plenty of providers just prescribing medications for their patients’ obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. But we have seen over and over that a science-based approach to healthy weight loss CAN contain and often reverse this condition.
This blog is all about encouraging YOU to be PRO-Active. Avoid sitting back and “waiting to see” what happens. Conquer complacency! The approach of “settling” for a pill or a combination of pills … or even insulin injections to handle Type 2 is NOT the ideal way to control or reverse it. Consider a LIFESTYLE solution like the Activate DNA-Based Weight Loss Program. Activate can provide you the opportunity, strategies and support to make such some significant shifts.
For more information about the Activate DNA-Based Weight Loss program just click or call!
Please watch for our next blog in which we will share a short video that very simply (literally in cartoon form!) describes what happens to create Type 2 Diabetes. Until next time … NEVER let yourself or those you love SETTLE for an unhealthy weight or a serious condition that may very well be prevented or reversed!
